Daily Race Practice - early bird boost
Dave Syer
What about a gradual lightening of the breeze from early to late - you would get more wind (maybe 7kts instead of 6kts or something), if you sail early?

New race starts at 2 AM ET. Maybe hide top (or all) racers to level the field. Then show all during historical/ghost race.

To some extent this is going to be down to where you live. You could try varying the start and/or finishing times. Also reduce the reference points (eg dont show the times until the race has finished) You could also add a third try for early birds so they could come back later if they are being trounced. Or only allow the second try to those that sail in the first 6 hours.

Handicap could be reduced for early players. For example first player gets handicap reduced by 10s ( or 20% ), second player by 5s ( or 10% ), etc

Spinnaker could be more effective for early players

Greg Dziemidowicz: going upwind is the most advantage for a late player who can use all of the other courses to help determine the best for himself. Catching wind or shaving off a second or half second here and there. And if they are slower going down wind, perhaps that offsets it on a terrific gameplay way- having boats pass each other over and over?
